Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi feels that he’s getting a boost in motivation from the Milan derby following his exploits with the Italian national team.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the 23-year-old gave his thoughts as he switches from the international break to preparing for the derby with his club Inter.

Frattesi got his chance to start in yesterday’s EURO 2024 qualifier against Ukraine.

The former Sassuolo midfielder, who joined Inter from the Neroverdi over the summer, replaced Sandro Tonali in the lineup.

New Azzurri coach Luciano Spalletti made a few alterations compared to the team that drew against North Macedonia last week. The former Napoli and Inter coach had no hesitation to freshen the team up in his second match in charge.

And of all Spalletti’s changes, giving Frattesi the nod was the one that had the biggest impact.

Italy clearly needed something different compared to what they’d shown in a turgid draw against North Macedonia.

And Inter midfielder Frattesi provided exactly the dimension that Spalletti’s Azzurri team to sparkle.

He scored both goals to cap off a man of the match performance for Italy. And now, Frattesi will hope to carry that momentum to his club side.

Davide Frattesi On International Duty & Milan Derby

As far as whether the Italian national team is back, Frattesi was circumspect.

“It’s still early. Let’s focus on qualification for the Euros and then see,” he said.

“We got a very important win after the draw against North Macedonia,” Frattesi continued.

As far the heading into the derby after the win over Ukraine, Frattesi said that “It’s a big week. It’s the kind of thing that gives you greater motivation and energy.”

Frattesi has yet to start for Inter since joining from Sassuolo in the summer.

However, the 23-year-old has come off the bench in all three of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A matches so far.

And the midfielder’s performance against Ukraine suggests that he’ll soon be ready to have a similar impact for his club as well.
