Former Inter Milan forward Stefano Muraro believes that his old side the Nerazzurri are the favourites for the Serie A title.

Speaking to Italian news outlet ItaSportPress, the former forward also named Lautaro Martinez as the player who will be decisive for Inter.

Inter have not made any secret of the fact that the Serie A title is their goal for this season.

The last time the Nerazzurri got their hands on the Scudetto was in the 2020-21 season.

And in the subsequent season, they got tantalizingly close. Inter were top of the table in January, with a commanding lead no less.

But over the course of a major wobble in form during the spring, that advantage eroded.

Inter’s city rivals AC Milan got in ahead of them, pipping the Nerazzurri to the title on the final day of the season.

Then last season, Inter got nowhere near the Serie A title. Napoli finished miles ahead of the Nerazzurri, and of every other big team in the Italian top flight.

Muraro Believes Inter Milan Favourites For Serie A Title

In the view of former Inter forward Muraro, however, this can be the season for Inter to finally recapture the title.

“Inter are favourites for the Scudetto because they’re a team who are strong in every position,” he said.

“They have a lot of players who Inzaghi is happy to start, and Thuram gives them a guarantee in attack,” he continued.

“He’s a player I’ve always liked,” Muraro said of Thuram. “Because he gives you a lot of energy and movement for the team.”

“He’s not Lukaku, but he will score a lot of goals in this league,” Muraro predicted.

As for who he expects to be Inter’s decisive player, Muraro predicted that “I’ll be obvious and say Lautaro.”

“The Argentine is more mature than Thuram, and has a lot of awareness of his own qualities,” he continued.

“He doesn’t look for a goal at all costs, and has great determination.”

“And then he’s also the first defender in the team, and the fans will always reward him for that spirit of generosity, even forgiving him some errors in front of goal.”

“But Inter are structured in a way that everyone can score goals, like the midfielders,” Muraro continued. “Inzaghi isn’t just relying on his strikers.”
