Striker Marcus Thuram feels that his transfer to Inter Milan was two years in the making.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old explained that he had already given the Nerazzurri his word long before his summer transfer.
Inter got their man this summer – Thuram signed on a five-year deal, joining from Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer.
However, it was not a brief pursuit by any means. And it did not come without its twists and turns.
Thuram had reportedly been one of the Nerazzurri’s main targets to replace Romelu Lukaku following the Belgian’s sale to Chelsea.
That had been all the way back in 2021.
And the Frenchman was not just a vague idea for Inter. The Nerazzurri were reportedly close to wrapping up a deal with Gladbach for around €25 million.
But a knee injury to the player saw Inter withdraw their interest. They moved for Lazio forward Joaquin Correa instead.
But in the end, Thuram has arrived after all.
And early on this season, the Frenchman has given a clear sign of why Inter always wanted to sign him.
Thuram has gotten off to a blazing start to the season, culminating in his goal against Milan in the derby this evening.
Marcus Thuram – Kept Word To Join Inter Milan
Inter signed Thuram ahead of the likes of AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
This was down to the player’s decision. Since Thuram was out of contract with Borussia Monchengladbach, it was entirely down to the Frenchman to choose his future.
The player explained that “Two years ago I was meant to join Inter.”
“But then I got injured. Still, I’d given my word to Inter.”
“Now I want to help my teammates, whether it’s with goals, assists, or defensive work,” Thuram said.
And Thuram explained of his goal against Milan yesterday that “I found myself one-on-one with the defender, and I just pulled the trigger.”
