The agent of midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan confirms that the Armenian wants to extend his contract with Inter Milan.
Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, Mkhitaryan’s agent Rafaela Pimenta said that the 34-year-old is “aging like a fine wine” and that he wants to sign a new deal with the Nerazzurri soon.
Mkhitaryan gave another demonstration of how important he can be for Inter in the derby against AC Milan on Saturday.
The former Roma, Arsenal, and Manchester United midfielder scored a brace to power the Nerazzurri to a 5-1 win.
And it was not just Mkhitaryan’s goals that caught the eye.
The Armenian was the player who really balanced Inter’s midfield trio from his role on the left.
When Mkhitaryan signed for Inter on a free transfer last summer, the expectation was that he would be more of a backup option. But on the contrary, he has taken a starting spot with both hands and rarely let go of it.
Agent Confirms Henrikh Mkhitaryan Wants To Extend Inter Milan Contract ASAP
When Inter signed for Inter last summer, he did so on a two-year contract.
Aged 33 when he signed from the Giallorossi, Inter were never likely to offer the veteran midfielder a longer deal than that.
But Mkhitaryan is showing no sign of slowing down. He will be 35 when his current deal runs out, but the sense is that he could still have his say past that age.
Pimenta observed that “Mkhitaryan is aging like a fine wine. He’s only improving with age.”
The agent then noted that “The player’s contact expires at the end of next June.”
“Clearly the midfielder wants to stay in Milan, where he’s totally happy,” Pimenta continued.
“So therefore his priority is to sign a contract with the club from Viale della Liberazione as soon as possible,” he made clear.
Mkhitaryan made 49 appearances for Inter last season. This time around, he’s started every one of the Nerazzurri’s four Serie A matches so far.
