Legendary former Inter Milan forward Antonio Cassano prefers Marcus Thuram to Romelu Lukaku, and Yann Sommer to Andre Onana.
Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInterNews, the ever-opinionated Cassano positively assessed two summer Nerazzurri signings in comparison to the players they effectively replaced.
So far at the start of the season, Inter have relied more on players who were at the club last season than new arrivals to get the job done.
Twelve players signed over the course of the transfer window. But mostly they’ve either been restricted to substitute appearances, or not yet featured.
But there are two notable exceptions.
Both striker Thuram and goalkeeper Sommer have started each of Inter’s four matches in Serie A so far.
And there are no indications that being thrust straight into the team has been a problem for either.
Thuram has scored two goals in Inter’s first four matches. And Sommer has conceded just one.
Cassano, for his part, is happy with both and what they’ve brought to Inter early on.
Cassano: Thuram Better Than Lukaku, Prefer Sommer To Onana
Of striker Thuram, Cassano said that “He’s made us forget all about Lukaku.”
“He’s much better than the Belgian,” the former forward argued. “He tore Milan apart.”
“When he attacked from deep, he always made the right decisions.”
“He has just arrived here, he will have his ups and downs,” Cassano said of the Frenchman.
“But he’ll do well, and is the perfect player to play alongside Lautaro.”
“I had my doubts because I thought that he was a winger and that he struggled to be a forward,” Cassano explained.
“But instead he’s proving that he does so very well.”
“If he gets more of a cutting edge in front of goals, then he could have scored five or six goals against Milan,” Cassano said of Thuram.
Cassano also argued that “I prefer Sommer to Onana, definitely. He’s more serious, he’s of a certain level.”
