Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez is expecting contract extension talks with Inter Milan to happen soon.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League opener against Real Sociedad, as reported by FCInterNews, the Argentine gave his thoughts on his future as well as on tomorrow’s match.

At the moment, Martinez’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2026.

However, reports suggest that the Nerazzurri do not want to keep that the case for much longer.

Inter’s intention is to tie Martinez down to a longer deal. Reports have suggested that they will offer the 26-year-old a new contract until the end of June 2028.

This would send a clear signal about Martinez’s status – other clubs with interest in signing him can keep their hands off the Nertazzurri captain.

This new deal – as well as an accompanying pay raise – would reflect Martinez’s status at Inter.

The 26-year-old inherited the captain’s armband from Samir Handanovic this season.

He is one of Inter’s most important players by far on the pitch. And he has also emerged as a real leader off of it, and a symbol of this team.

Lautaro Martinez: Expecting Contract Talks With Inter Milan Soon

Martinez said that “I’m very happy to fight for these colours. There will be time to think about a contract extension.”

“I’m very calm about it and very happy here,” he added. “We’ll discuss it with the club soon.”

Of this season’s Champions League, Martinez said that “We’re beginning with the dream of going all the way. That’s our goal.”

“We have to do the same kind of work we did last season. And now there are many new players.”

“I’m happy with what we’ve done up to this point,” the Argentine added.

And of winning the derby 5-1 against AC Milan on the weekend, Martinez said that “It’s certainly left us feeling strong, happy, and confident.”

“This is another competition, though,  and we have to be 100% focused.”

The Inter captain made clear that “The details make the difference, we’ve prepared for tomorrow’s match.”
