Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team would have at least deserved to force extra time against Man City in last season’s Champions League final.

FCInterNewsSpeaking to Amazon Prime ahead of the Nerazzurri’s clash with Real Sociedad this evening, via , the coach looked back on the 0-1 defeat against the Cityzens.

Last season, Inter came desperately close to winning the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri went on a run that took them all the way to the final of the competition. In Istanbul, they faced off against Premier League champions Manchester City.

City were widely considered to be the big favourites. But Inter did put in a very competitive performance, going toe-to-toe with the Cityzens and equalling them in virtually every statistical category.

Moreover, after City had scored in the second half, Inter put their goal under a late onslaught.

There were several chances to get a goal back and force extra time.

But in the end, poor finishing let Inzaghi’s team down.

But the coach feels that they would have deserved to at least take the match the distance, if not win it outright.

Simone Inzaghi: Inter Milan Deserved Extra Time Vs Man City

Inzaghi looked back, “It was a great honour to play in the final,” last season.

“We deserved extra time, but that evening and last year’s run to the final still gave us a lot.”

“With our team spirit, we did very well and we want to do so again.”

“The derby has given us a lot of happiness, and the same for our incredible fans, and the club,” Inzaghi noted.

“But that’s already in the past, and now we have to look ahead to Real Sociedad. An opponent of absolutely top quality.”

And of his status at the club, Inzaghi said that “I hope that my players, the club, and the fans recognize it.”

“We’ve been on a great journey in the past two and a half year. And we hope that it keeps going.”
