Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez pinpoints the areas where his team must improve following Wednesday’s Champions League encounter against Real Sociedad.

The Nerazzurri endured a complicated evening at the San Sebastian. They almost sustained their first defeat of the season.

Nevertheless, the Argentine skipper pounced on a through ball from Davide Frattesi to snatch a late equalizer and secure a 1-1 draw. The Serie A giants have thus managed to collect their first European point of the season.

But despite being on the scoresheet, Martinez certainly wasn’t satisfied with his team’s display. The 26-year-old insists that his team must improve tactically.

He also highlights ball possession as another department that the Beneamata must enhance.

“We certainly displayed our ability to react in difficult moments,” said Lautaro in his post-match interview with Inter TV via FcInterNews.

“We have grown a lot in this sense. However, we still have to improve on a tactical level and when in possession.

“Today, we weren’t at our best, so it’s important that we didn’t lose.

“In the first half, we sat too deep and had difficulty coming out with the ball. We suffered the same during the early stages of the Derby.

“But when you play every three days, it’s difficult to work in training. We have to recover energy and be ready for the next match in the league.”

Lautaro’s goal happened to be Inter’s 200th in the Champions League. He also equaled Hernan Crespo’s Nerazzurri tally in the competition and is now only behind Adriano and Julio Cruz.

“It means a lot because I work every day to give my best. I hope to keep on like this, help the team and bring joy to the fans.”
