Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer feels that, ultimately, what matters is that the team at least got a result against Real Sociedad.

Speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old gave his immediate reaction to the Nerazzurri’s 1-1 Champions League draw.

Sommer was perhaps one of the only Inter players who really showed his quality in team’s Champions League opener.

The Swiss international made several sharp saves.

And he had to. La Real piled on the pressure for the majority of the match, and created a number of chances to call the Inter keeper into action.

But, apart from the early opening goal which he could do little about Sommer, was equal to every shot that he faced.

And this proved to be vital for the Nerazzurri.

With the scoreline remaining at 1-0, Inter always had a tangible hope of getting a result.

Late in the match, Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez popped up with an equalizer. But in truth, the captain will have had his goalkeeper to thank for everything he did to make sure that the equalizing goal was even possible.

Yann Sommer: Point Is What Matters For Inter Vs Real Sociedad

For his part, goalkeeper Sommer said that “I expected such a difficult match. They have quality and pressed us very well.”

“Some days are like this,” he continued. “We were not at our best in a tough match, away from home.”

“In the end it’s an important point,” Sommer observed.

“It was important to start with a good result, we can be satisfied. It gives us confidence.”

Then Sommer said that “In the second half we had few chances to score, a couple, but we scored one goal. We were effective.”

As for Inter’s next match against Empoli, the keeper said that “Now I’m thinking about tonight’s match.”

“We have to analyze this match so that we can prepare for the next one.”
