Inter Milan could see their fixture list before the next international break as a perfect opportunity to pull ahead in the Serie A title race.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter’s next four matches are against Empoli, Sassuolo, Salernitana, and Bologna.
There are no truly easy fixtures in Serie A. However, these are all matches against midtable or relegation-tier teams.
Therefore, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will surely be looking to take twelve points from twelve – keeping the perfect start to the season alive.
The coach will undoubtedly rotate his team during the packed period. But if he gets it right, the Nerazzurri could head into the October break with maximum points, and a real lead in the table.
Inter Milan Fixture List A Possible Asset Early In Serie A Title Race
It’s worth noting that all of Empoli, Salernitana, and Bologna took points off of Inter last season.
And Sassuolo had done so the previous campaign, as the Rossoblu also had.
Therefore, Inzaghi and Inter will know perfectly well the risks that come with these “smaller” matches.
Last season, it had been precisely in these kind of fixtures that the Nerazzurri slipped up.
As such, this next four-match stretch will be as big a test for Inter’s title credentials as more high-profile matches against Fiorentina and AC Milan, both of whom the Nerazzurri blew away by four-goal margins.
If Inter can find the right balance in terms of their squad rotations and style of play, they can really make a statement and mark themselves out as favourites.
All of the Nerazzurri’s major rivals for the title have head-to-head clashes with bigger teams.
But on the other hand, if Inter get bogged down in these matches, it would hardly send a positive message.
