Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez could be given a rest in tomorrow evening’s Serie A match away to Empoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews.

So far this season, Martinez has started every one of Inter’s matches.

This is hardly surprising considering that the 26-year-old wears the captain’s armband for the Nerazzurri.

And Martinez had gotten off to a flying start for the campaign. The Argentine, who has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons, has already scored five goals in Serie A as well as getting off the mark in the Champions League.

Martinez scored the Nerazzurri’s late equalizer against Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

Clearly Martinez has been a key player for Inter as has been the case for several seasons.

But according to the Corriere della Sera, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi could decide to give the captain a rest tomorrow.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Could Get A Rest Vs Empoli

In each of Inter’s first four Serie A matches of the season, Martinez started alongside Marcus Thuram in attack.

Then against La Real on Wednesday, Marko Arnautovic was the Argentine’s strike partner.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez made his first appearance in his second spell at Inter against La Real on Wednesday. The Chilean came on as a substitute, having a big impact on that match.

Inter coach Inzaghi has several attacking options at his disposal, even if Martinez is clearly the player at the heart of the team’s attack.

And according to the Corriere della Sera, the coach is considering changing things up.

Martinez could drop to the bench. Clearly, with the fixture list becoming more gruelling, the Argentine will need a rest at some point.

But even if the captain doesn’t start, the Corriere della Sera notes, he will likely appear at some stage.

Last season, Martinez played in every single one of Inter’s 57 matches.

Even when he did not start, Inzaghi has turned to the Argentine eventually.
