Inter Milan coach SImone Inzaghi feels that he could use an attacking midfielder behind a central striker with Marko Arnautovic out injured.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Empoli, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri coach reacted to the thigh problem that the Austrian suffered during this afternoon’s match.

If there was a negative aspect to Inter’s victory over Empoli this afternoon, it was the injury to Arnautovic.

The Austrian former West Ham United, Stoke City, and Bologna man had only come on during the second half. He replaced captain Lautaro Martinez just after the seventieth minute.

But Arnautovic was only on the pitch for under twenty minutes before suffering an injury.

The problem occurred when the 34-year-old seem to overextend his left leg a bit whilst challenging for the ball.

Arnautovic immediately showed a grimace of pain and began holding on to his left thigh. The striker immediately exited the pitch, where the Inter team doctor had a look at him.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Names Possible Options With Arnautovic Injured

Inzaghi said of Arnautovic that “He suffered a major injury. He’ll undergo tests in the next few days.”

The coach noted that the Austrian’s injury is “The only bad news we take away from today.”

“He’s been fitting in well here. We’ll see how bad it is in the next few days.”

Of the possibility of being without Arnautovic for a while, Inzaghi said “He’s a big loss.”

“I can certainly evaluate Klaassen and Mkhitaryan who can play as second strikers,” he noted.

“We’ll always start with two strikers,” he continued.

“Let’s hope Marko returns soon, and also Sensi.”

Of defender Benjamin Pavard’s performance against Empoli, Inzaghi said that “Today he did very well with Darmian.”

“They formed a very good partnership. They’re very intelligent players.”

The Inter coach noted that “Benjamin arrived with very strong motivation and immediately became a part of the group.”

“We know the quality he has, he’s an excellent signing.”

And of the team’s start to the season, Inzaghi said that “Inter aren’t under any obligation to send a message to our rivals.”

Of the win over Empoli, he noted that “We created a lot, we weren’t able to score more.”

“In the last quarter of an hour of the first half we didn’t do very well, then in the second half we got our foothold back in the match.”

“Dimarco’s goal helped us,” the coach noted.

“Then with the injury we had to play with a numerical disadvantage. Which is something you can pay for if you don’t kill off the match.”
