Rossoneri superstar Rafael Leao admits that at the moment, Inter Milan are clearly the superior team to his AC Milan.

Speaking to GQ Portugal, via FCInterNews, the 24-year-old is frank about the divide that currently exists between the pair of derby rivals after the 5-1 thrashing in their most recent meeting.

Leao was able to get on the scoresheet during the most recent meeting between Inter and Milan.

However, the Portuguese international and former Sporting CP and Lille man’s goal was nothing more than a consolation in what was otherwise a miserable evening for the Rossoneri.

Milan had gone into the match with hope that they could get some measure of revenge on their city rivals.

The previous four derby matches had all ended in Inter victories. But Milan’s form to start the season was every bit as good as their city rivals’, and they hoped to finally get a derby win in 2023.

Instead, Inter ran riot.

The Nerazzurri went in at halftime 2-0 up. Leao got one back to give the Rossoneri hope, and then Inter prompty crushed that hope by scoring three more goals to make the final scoreline of the match 5-1.

Leao looked back on the Champions League semifinal tie against Inter.

“The Champions League is every player’s dream,” he said. “And last year we came close, even if Inter were clearly superior because they’re a highly complete team both on the pitch and also the bench.”

He still said that “Milan is on the right path.”

“Now our goal has to be to keep on improving and improving.”

Leao was confident in predicting that “Milan will win the Champions League again soon.”

Last season, Inter reached the final of Europe’s top club competition ahead of their city rivals.

However, the Nerazzurri fell to a narrow 0-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the final.
