Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that Wednesday’s loss against Sassuolo was unfortunate, and beating Salernitana this evening was necessary.

The Nerazzurri captain and match-winner spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, following the 4-0 victory over Salernitana.

The 4-0 scoreline doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story of Inter’s win over Salernitana.

The Granata went toe-to-toe with the Nerazzurri for long stretches of the match after an initial burst by Inter.

But the introduction of Inter captain Martinez in the second half was something of a turning point. The Argentine came on along with midfielders Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Kristjan Asllani.

Martinez, whose previous hattrick in Serie A had come against Salernitana, went one better against the same opposition.

The Inter captain ran riot during the time he was on the pitch. A four-goal haul took the Argentine’s goal tally for the season to nine in Serie A and ten in all competitions.

This was enough to earn Inter three vital points.

This result is the first step to washing away the taste of Wednesday evening’s defeat against Sassuolo. And it gets the Nerazzurri back on track in their push for the Serie A title.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez: Defeat Vs Sassuolo Undeserved, Victory Vs Sassuolo Necessary

After the match, Martinez said that “This match was our bread and butter.”

“We lost against Ssassuolo undeservedly, conceding two goals as a result of errors,” the Inter captain continued.

“Today we had to win, we created chances but missed some chances in front of goal,” he went on.

“Then the goal came in the second half.”

Asked if the team has become more clinical, Martinez replied “Yes, we’ve already shown that.”

“We started well, and then after the international break we’ve had less time to train. You can start to feel that.”

“Now we’ve recovered,” the Nerazzurri captain said.

He made clear that “We always have to be ready when the coach calls on us.”

Martinez also remarked that “I try to keep growing both on and off the pitch. I do so in terms of my family and with my family and my children, who are always by my side. And I do so on the pitch as well.”
