There’s virtually no hope of midfielder Davide Frattesi returning to fitness for Inter Milan in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Benfica.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908.

Frattesi was not able to make an appearance for Inter in yesterday evening’s 4-0 Serie A win over Salernitana.

The 24-year-old was out with a thigh problem. He was one of four Inter players absent, along with striker Marko Arnautovic, midfielder Stefano Sensi, and wingback Juan Cuadrado.

The problem for Frattesi is a muscle strain.

The Italian international has picked up a slight strain to the thigh flexor muscles in his right leg.

It is not an overly serious problem. The sense is that Frattesi should be able to return within a few days.

But naturally, Inter and Frattesi will not want to be taking any risks as far as fitness.

And the timeline for the midfielder to return against Benfica is not exactly a generous one.

Davide Frattesi Unlikely To Be Fit For Inter Milan Vs Benfica Clash

Inter may only have just played yesterday afternoon. But they’ll be back in action in a couple days.

On Tuesday evening, the Nerazzurri host Benfica for their second Champions League group stage campaign.

Both teams will be hoping to recover from a difficult start to the group stage.

Inter managed to scrape a draw that somewhat spared their blushes after a poor performance in their opener away to Real Sociedad.

But it was a match that made clear that the Nerazzurri can not underestimate this group.

Meanwhile, it was even worse for Benfica.

The Portuguese champions suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Red Bull Salzburg, giving themselves a mountain to climb if they want to reach the knockout rounds of the competition for the second season running.

Inter will of course want as much of their squad to call upon as possible for the match.

But it is unlikely that Frattesi will be able to be part of the squad.
