Defender Benjamin Pavard wants to win trophies at Inter Milan, and is hoping captain Lautaro Martinez stays at the club a long time.

The Frenchman spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInterNews.

Pavard made the move to Inter from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.

By all accounts, it was a move that the 27-year-old former Stuttgart defender was very keen to make.

Despite having a year left to run on his deal in Bavaria, Pavard pushed to join Inter.

Reports suggested that the 2018 World Cup winner was not altogether happy at Bayern due to his tactical role. Pavard sees himself as first and foremost a defender, whilst at Bayern he was just as often played as more of an attacking full-back.

Therefore, at Inter Pavard seems to have found the right balance.

The Frenchman has been lining up on the right of Inter’s back three.

This gives Pavard plenty of opportunities to use his considerable technical quality and passing range.

But he is still, first and foremost, a defender.

It’s still very early on in Pavard’s time as an Inter player. The Frenchman has only made three appearances for the team so far.

But early signs suggest that the 27-year-old is fitting in well. And there are big expectations on his shoulders.

Benjamin Pavard: Want To Win With Inter, Hope Lautaro Stays A Long Time

Pavard made clear that “I want to win trophies here. I want to have the second star on my shirt.”

“I’m playing in every competition to win,” he went on.

“That’s just the way that I am.”

And Pavard also spoke about his captain Lautaro Martinez. “He is a world-class striker,” the Frenchman said.

“He proves it every season, and will prove it again.”

“He’s a leader and our captain,” Pavard said of Martinez. “I hope he can keep extend his adventure at Inter, I’m very happy to be a teammate of a player like that. He’s very important for the team.”
