Italian journalist Tony Damaschelli feels that Inter Milan are overly dependent on their captain and striker Lautaro Martinez.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Il Giornale in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInter1908, the journalist gave his thoughts on the importance of Martinez to the Nerazzurri’s style of play.

Martinez once again proved his worth to Inter with his remarkable four-goal haul against Salernitana on Saturday.

The Argentine was not in the starting eleven for the match. But once he came on, he left his mark.

In truth, before Martinez’s introduction Inter had been struggling to find fluency in attack.

The Nerazzurri lacked a real reference point in attack, or a player who could finish off their attacking move.

But almost as soon as Martinez came on, there looked to be more coherency and fluidity for Inter across the pitch.

This could raise the question of whether the Nerazzurri rely too much on their captain. There is no player who provides the same qualities that Martinez does in the team.

Damaschelli: Inter Milan Are “Dependent On Lautaro Martinez”

Damaschelli gave the view that that “Inter are dependent on Lautaro.”

“Once the world champions came on for Sanchez, the team were suddenly able to score goals,” he continued. “And all four came from the Argentine in Salerno.”

Damaschelli also noted that “League seasons are like the weather. You can go from pessimism to euphoria all in the space of a single round of matches.”

Inter are currently back at the top of the Serie A table.

The Nerazzurri returned to the summit by taking three points against Salernitana. This followed the first real setback of the season, a loss against Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri sit level on points with city rivals AC Milan after seven matches. Both have taken eighteen points out of a possible 21
