All of Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco, Alessandro Bastoni, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be back in the Inter Milan starting eleven for this evening’s Champions League group stage match against Benfica.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has just a few hours left in which to make his lineup decisions for this evening’s match.
Three points may not be outright necessary, but it will feel that way.
Inter were only able to scrape a draw in their first group stage match, away to Real Sociedad.
And, more worryingly, that match saw the Nerazzurri overrun for long stretches, with the point that they took away from San Sebastian truthfully a generous reflection of their performance.
Therefore, a statement win would be hugely significant for Inter to bounce back from that flat opener.
And for Benfica, the importance of a result this evening would be even greater.
The Portuguese champions’ opening day match was a disaster. They fell to a 0-2 defeat at home to Red Bull Salzburg, after having defender Antonio Silva sent off.
No Squad Rotation – Lautaro, Dimarco, Bastoni & Mkhitaryan Will All Start Vs Benfica
Over the weekend, Inter coach Inzaghi rotated his squad.
Captain Martinez was out of the starting eleven for the first time, as was midfielder Mkhitaryan.
Both did come off the bench in the second half, however.
Meanwhile, defender Bastoni and wingback Dimarco got the night off, not featuring at all at the Stadio Arechi.
According to Tuttosport, however, there is no question that all four will be back in the lineup this evening.
Considering the huge significance of this evening’s match, Inzaghi will go with what he sees as his strongest team.
And in defense, Benjamin Pavard could drop out of the starting eleven. Inzaghi’s one real selection doubt is between the Frenchman and Matteo Darmian in defense.
