Inter Milan Wingback Federico Dimarco: ‘We Turned The Screw In Second Half Vs Benfica, But We Have To Kill Off Matches’

Wingback Federico Dimarco feels that Inter Milan must be clinical in killing off matches after their narrow margin of victory over Benfica.

The 25-year-old spoke to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews.

Inter took three points from their second group stage match of this season’s Champions League, which is ultimately what matters.

But it was not a result that looked certain until the final whistle arrived.

The Nerazzurri had to suffer through a nervy last few minutes, as they knew that Benfica could well have equalized.

And the scoreline remaining at 1-0 emboldened the Portuguese team to push for a late equalizer.

Had Benfica gotten a late goal to take a point, it would hardly have been one that they deserved, truthfully.

But in football, it is the result that counts. All Inter’s good work in what was a dominant second half performance could have evaporated had they let in an equalizer.

And then the Nerazzurri would have had only themselves to blame. They did have plenty of chances to score two or three more goals than the single one that they did during the second half.

Dimarco: Inter Need To Kill Games Off

Dimarco said after the match that “We played a great match in all respects.”

“During halftime we spoke amongst ourselves,” he added. “We came back onto the pitch and did better.”

“But in matches like this we have to kill them off, because anything can happen,” he continued. “Especially after we created so many chances.”

Dimarco noted that “We’ve been playing together for a year and a half now.”

“There’s great understanding between us, and we’re also able to interchange in our positions,” he continued.

“In the second half we turned the screw. We created a lot of chances, but as I said we need to kill off matches.”
