The mayor of Milano Giuseppe Sala is still trying to keep either Inter Milan or AC Milan at the San Siro Stadium.

In 2019, the Derby della Madonnina rivals worked hand-in-hand on a shared project. The two Serie A giants were looking to demolish the current San Siro stadium and build a modern one in its stead.

But this plan faced a host of bureaucratic hurdles. In recent months, the new San Siro project received a deadly blow as the Superintendency placed a restriction on the stadium due to its historical and cultural value.

This prompted the Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri to search elsewhere. Each club is now looking to build its new ground in a different area around the city of Milano.

But according to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, Milano mayor Giuseppe Sala is still hoping to convince either Inter or Milan to stay at San Siro.

But since the Rossoneri are adamant about building their own venue in San Donato, Sala believes he has a better chance of luring the Nerazzurri.

But as the source explains, Inter aren’t keen on the proposal. The idea of renovating the San Siro doesn’t entice the Beneamata.

In addition to the imposed restrictions, the stadium’s century-old structure would complicate the renovation plan, explains the report.

In any case, Inter are already planning on building their new ground in the Rozzano region.
