Bologna coach Thiago Motta feels that his team initially struggled to control the match against Inter Milan due to the Nerazzurri’s quality.
The Rossoblu coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews.
In the end, Bologna certainly came to grips with this afternoon’s match against Inter.
The Rossoblu came back from 2-0 down to take a point away from the San Siro.
But this was a situation in which Motta’s players had to grow into the match.
In the early going, Inter put the Emilian team under heavy pressure, and built up a two-goal advantage for their troubles.
The Nerazzurri will be asking big questions about how they managed to squander their early advantage.
But early on, it looked like it would be another match in which Bologna might sustain a heavy defeat like their last couple of visits to the San Siro to face Inter. Both of those matches were 6-1 victories for the Nerazzurri.
Bologna Coach Motta: Couldn’t Initially Control Match Vs Inter
The Rossoblu managed to turn that script on its head, however.
This was particularly the case after Motta’s team managed to find the back of the net from a first-half penalty.
The Emilians then completed the comeback early on in the second half.
Motta set his team up to play with a lot of attacking intent, and they were rewarded for it in the form of an equalizing goal from striker Joshua Zirkzee.
After that, it was mostly Inter who looked to force the issue. The Nerazzurri pushed and pushed to regain their advantage, albeit without any success.
Perhaps if Inter had managed to recapture the same dynamic from the start of the match, however, they would have had more luck.
After the match, Motta observed that “We know Inter start matches off strong. We weren’t able to control the match in the first twenty minutes because they’re a strong team.”
He continued that “We reacted well to a negative situation.”
“The guys were fantastic,” Motta added.
“The reward for us is a deserved draw. They put in a great performance.”
