Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto admits that it’s come as a surprise for him to receive a call-up for Brazil.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, the 24-year-old also rued this afternoon’s 2-2 Serie A draw against Bologna, a match which saw the Nerazzurri squander an early two-goal advantage.

Augusto has worked his way into the Brazilian national team setup.

This follows an outstanding debut campaign in Serie A with Monza and then a summer move to Inter.

So far, Augusto has not looked out his depth at the Nerazzurri. He has not made the starting role on the left of his own ahead of Federico Dimarco, but has already had a couple of starts and several appearances from the bench.

Moreover, Augusto has looked impressive when he has played.

This evening’s match against Bologna was another positive one for the Brazilian personally, despite the result for the team.

This form early on in his Inter career has convinced Selecao coach Fernando Diniz to call up Augusto.

Inter Wingback Carlos Augusto Surprised At Brazil Call-Up

Of receiving his first national team call-up, Augusto called it “A surprise. I didn’t expect it.”

“I hope to do well during the international break,” he continued.

“And then when we come back as a club we have to do well, and continue to have confidence.”

“Things didn’t go well today,” he added. “But we have to keep going the way we had been doing in previous matches.”

Of making the move to Inter, Augusto said that “I knew that it would be a big step up. But my teammates and the coaching staff are helping me adjust every day.”

As far as the team’s draw against Bologna, Augusto said that “We’re angry because we’re Inter and we always have to win.”

“We can’t draw matches like this, we have to stay focused,” he added.

He lamented that “We were two goals up and then we ended up drawing. It’s unacceptable to draw matches like this.”
