Inter Milan and Simone Inzaghi have received criticism for continuing the trend of failing to replicate their performances in big matches against “smaller” teams in Serie A.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who castigate the Nerazzurri for showing the same old inconsistency in the Italian top flight.

A criticism that has dogged Inzaghi since the 47-year-old took over at Inter has been that he cannot maintain a consistent standard of performance.

Few would deny that the coach has masterminded some great performances from the Nerazzurri.

And often, these have come on the biggest stage.

Obviously the Nerazzurri’s victories in both domestic cup competitions in each of the past two seasons are examples of that. As is the team’s run to last season’s Champions League final.

And at the start of this season, Inter have already produced three real statement performances.

Dominant victories over Fiorentina and AC Milan in the league marked the Nerazzurri out as early title favourites.

And the Nerazzurri gave a positive early sign in the Champions League with their win over Benfica. The 1-0 scoreline didn’t tell the whole story of the dominance of Inter’s performance.

Inter & Simone Inzaghi Frustrated By Inconsistency In Serie A Yet Again

Last season, Inter lost a whopping twelve matches in Serie A.

And while some of these defeats came against the usual suspects – AC Milan, Roma, Juventus – that did not account for the entire total.

Inter made a bad habit of dropping points in their most “winnable” matches.

And whilst the Nerazzurri initially avoided these pitfalls this time around, the same pattern is creeping in.

Inter and Inzaghi will have been desperate to make their Serie A loss to Sassuolo into nothing more than a blip.

But instead, the Nerazzurri dropped points at the San Siro for the second time in a row.

And once again it came in a match against a team who, on paper, they’ll have expected to beat.

Therefore for the Gazzetta, there are still questions that Inter, and particularly Inzaghi, have failed to answer.
