Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that Marcus Thuram has been the most positive surprise of the season for Inter Milan.
Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the former coach highlighted the Frenchman’s partnership with Lautaro Martinez as an especially pleasant surprise for the Nerazzurri.
Thuram arrived at Inter this summer with significant expectations on his shoulders.
But at the same time, few expected the 26-year-old to hit the ground running quite as he has.
Thuram had to adjust to a new team and tactical setup. Moreover, the Frenchman had never played in Serie A prior to this campaign.
Thuram had not quite established himself as an out-and-out centre-forward prior to joining the Nerazzurri.
The big question concerning Thuram’s success in this team always concerned how he would fit in with his new teammates, and particularly attacking partner Martinez.
And for Sacchi, it’s been a pleasant surprise to see the former Borussia Monchengladbach man slot in so seamlessly.
Sacchi: Marcus Thuram The Most Positive Surprise For Inter Milan
“The most positive surprise at Simone Inzaghi’s Inter has been Marcus Thuram for me,” Sacchi writes.
“It’s not easy to land in Serie A and be be decisive right away,” he continued.
“How many top-class players have struggled during their first experience in Italian football!”
“But we’re looking at a player who has slotted in brilliantly to the team’s style of play, followed his coach’s instructions to the letter, and above all integrated perfectly with Lautaro.”
“So much so that he Argentine is the top scorer in the league,” he notes.
Sacchi writes that “Thuram’s movements always function well with those of his teammate. If Lautaro attacks space, he comes towards him, and vice versa.”
“And you can see that the two players frequently look for each othe,” he continues.
“Inter develops many moves in wide areas. And the two are good at ‘sharing’ the penalty area.”
“One goes to the near post, the other to the far post,” Sacchi explains.
“One will move away from the marking a bit, and the other goes straight towards goal. I reiterate, they’re a well-matched pair.”
