Inter Milan are the only big team in Serie A who haven’t yet gotten a goal out of their backup strikers this season.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin0-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that neither Marko Arnautovic nor Alexis Sanchez have gotten on the scoresheet as of yet.

So far this season, most of the big teams in Serie A have gotten important contributions from their backup forwards.

For AC Milan, Noah Okafor was the player who began the Rossoneri’s 3-1 comeback win over Cagliari.

In Lazio’s case, Taty Castellanos underlined his value with a goal and an assist in Ciro Immobile’s absence as the Biancocelesti edged Atalanta in a 3-2 thriller.

Both of Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone have already gotten on the scoresheet for Napoli.

Roma’s Andrea Belotti has also scored decisive goals.

And Arkadiusz Milik has already scored key goals in a couple wins for Juventus – against Lecce and Torino.

None of these players are necessarily in their respective teams’ “strongest elevens.” But when called upon, all have come up with important goals.

Inter Not Able To Rely On Goals From “Backup” Strikers Like Serie A Rivals

For Inter, on the other hand, it has been a different story.

The ten goals that Lautaro Martinez has scored in Serie A have meant that this is not necessarily a problem.

And then Marcus Thuram has found the back of the net twice. The Frenchman has also produced five assists.

But other than those two, Inter have to look elsewhere for goals. Wingback Denzel Dumfries has bagged a couple, whilst Federico Dimarco has gotten himself on the scoresheet.

And then midfielders Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have each scored twice.

But notably absentees from the Inter scoresheet are forwards Arnautovic and Sanchez.

The former got an assist early on. He set up Martinez’s second goal in an opening day win over Monza.

But injury has meant that the Austrian has been unable to have any more cracks at goal after some scoreless early outings.

Meanwhile Sanchez has lacked cutting edge in the final third.

Therefore, unlike Milan, Juventus, Lazio, Roma, and Napoli, Inter’s backup strikers have yet to score.
