Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is enjoying his best start to a season ever, something which the statistics bear out.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the degree to which the Argentine has surpassed his prior starts to a season in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Last season, Martinez had scored just three goals in Inter’s first ten matches of the season.

This did not exactly prove to be a problem in the end. The Argentine found his shooting boots as the campaign wore on, finishing with 27 goals across all competitions.

But it was hardly the fastest of starts for Martinez.

And in each of the two previous campaigns, the Argentine had scored five goals in ten matches to kick things off.

Hardly a bad scoring rate at a goal every other match. But not an eye-watering statistic either.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Begins Season In Blazing Form – More Than Doubling Previous Best Start

At the start of this season, expectations were high around Martinez.

The 26-year-old had become Inter’s new captain, inheriting the armband from Samir Handanovic.

And as Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons, the burden did seem to be on the new captain to keep up the production in front of goal, particularly with Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku gone.

Three goals after ten matches like at the start of last season may not have been good enough.

And Martinez has responded to the goal.

At the moment, the 26-year-old is scoring at a rate of more than one per match.

Admittedly, the four goals that Martinez bagged away to Salernitana is doing some of the heavy lifting there.

But even without that lone match taken into consideration, the Inter captain has already found the back of the net seven times.

That still surpasses Martinez’s previous best start to a season.
