Former Nerazzurri midfielder Borja Valero is looking at the current Inter Milan team more optimistically than pessimistically.
The Spaniard gave his assessment to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews.
There has been something of a mixed reception to the start of Inter’s season.
On the one hand, there have been plenty of reasons to be happy with what the Nerazzurri have produced so far.
There have been statement performances and results against the likes of Fiorentina, AC Milan, and Benfica.
And in truth, Inter’s points tally in Serie A is hardly a bad one. The Nerazzurri are significantly better off than they had been at this stage last season.
But on the other hand, there have been a couple of worrying slip-ups.
In dropping points against the likes of Sassuolo and Bologna, Inter have introduced the same doubts that plagued a lot of last campaign. And their dreary performance away to Real Sociedad in the Champions League didn’t help.
Moreover, Inter have fallen behind city rivals AC Milan in the table after their slip-ups in the league.
This despite the fact that the Nerazzurri had dismantled the Rossoneri 5-1 in the head-to-head meeting.
Borja Valero: “Glass Is Half Full” For Inter Milan
For his part, Valero is looking more at the positives rather than dwelling on the more negative signs.
As far as the title race goes, the former Fiorentina and West Bromwich Albion man predicted that “Inter and Milan will fight for the title until the end.”
And of the Nerazzurri’s lapses in form, he said that “It’s often been the case that they’ve struggled after Champions League matches.”
“It’s happened again, but with a difference,” he continued.
“They used to begin the matches in the wrong way. Now they’ve been suffering comebacks against Sassuolo and Bologna.”
Valero gave the view that “I would consider the glass half full.”
“Not making mistakes in terms of how they start the matches is important. I think that Inter have figured that out. I wouldn’t be too worried.”
