Inter Milan quartet Federico Dimarco, Alessandro Bastoni, Matteo Darmian, and Matteo Darmian will start for Italy against Malta this evening.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
There are currently six Inter players with the Italy squad.
The Nerazzurri have formed a strong core of Italian players over the past few years. And this has been reflected by the number of regulars in the Inter team who also start for the Azzurri.
Italy coach Luciano Spalletti is now really getting his national team project underway.
There were always clear indications that some Inter players were going to play a big role. And according to the Corriere, that theme will continue in this evening’s EURO 2024 qualifier against Malta.
Four Inter Players To Start For Italy Vs Malta
The Azzurri face Malta in their first of two EURO qualifiers during the current international break.
Whilst the anticipation around the match is not the same as that for next week’s qualifier against England, it is still a very important match for Italy.
The Azzurri are expected to win. However, if they were to fail to take three points, it would seriously jeopardize their efforts to qualify for the upcoming Euros.
The back four in the match will have a strong Inter theme, the Corriere predicts.
Federico Dimarco will start on the left of the defense. And on the right, Matteo Darmian will be in the lineup.
Meanwhile, Alessandro Bastoni will start in defense as well.
The Corriere anticipate that the 24-year-old will line up alongside Roma defender Gianluca Mancini.
This means that veteran Nerazzurri defender Francesco Acerbi will settle for a place on the bench.
Then, in midfield, Inter’s Nicolo Barella will start this evening’s match.
On the other hand, Davide Frattesi will not start – the 24-year-old is still dealing with some ongoing fitness issues.
