Inter Milan are likely to sign another forward as early as January, regardless of what happens with Alexis Sanchez and Marko Arnautovic.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter’s attack has looked to be a major problem area at the start of the current season.
On the one hand, the starting pair has certainly done its job. Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram have combined for fourteen goals across all competitions so far.
And in terms of the standard of performance, the duo have looked to have a strong relationship on the pitch already.
But then behind those two, things have looked more difficult for Inter.
The Nerazzurri brought in Arnautovic and Sanchez during the summer.
The club’s hope had been that the pair could be reliable, experienced deputies for the main starters.
But that’s not quite how it has worked out. At least not so far in the season.
Inter To Sign New Forward Regardless Of Alexis Sanchez & Marko Arnautovic
Sanchez and Arnautovic had both scored prolifically last season, for Marseille and Bologna respectively.
However, neither has gotten on the scoresheet yet for Inter.
Arnautovic has been out with a thigh injury. And Sanchez has shown one or two flashes of what he can bring to the team, but not in terms of being decisive in the final third.
As far as the next few weeks go, Inter will wait patiently to see what happens with the pair.
Arnautovic being fit again in the coming weeks could give the team a boost. The Austrian can once again start to show what he can do.
And Sanchez’s quality is still hardly in question, irrespective of his form.
The Chilean will get his opportunities going forward.
But one way or another, Tuttosport report, Inter will look for a new forward signing. This could come as early as the January transfer window.
And there is little question of who the Nerazzurri’s primary target will be. They want Porto and Iran striker Mehdi Taremi.
