Former Inter Milan midfielder Benoit Cauet believes that Marcus Thuram is the perfect strike partner for Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Frenchman spoke to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInter1908. He also argued that Martinez is the right man to wear the captain’s armband at Inter.

When Thuram arrived at Inter during the summer, the big question always looked to be how he would fit in with Martinez.

There was never much question about the Argentine being a key fixture in the starting eleven. Particularly given that he became club captain during the summer.

With Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku out the door during the transfer window, there was a lot of pressure on Thuram to form a new strike partnership with Martinez.

And so far this season, the pair have shown a great entertainment.

The two Inter strikers have been able to dovetail well in terms of their movement on the pitch and their complementary characteristics.

Cauet: Marcus Thuram & Lautaro Martinez

Thuram is a player who wanted a change and wanted to come to Serie A,” the Frenchman noted.

“Many clubs tried to get him, but Inter managed to do it,” he went on.

“He has great physical strength and great technical ability.”

“He has very specific and perfect characteristics to be paired with Lautaro,” Cauet noted.

The former Inter midfielder also noted that “Pavard was a starter for Bayern Munich.”

“He wanted a change because, in my opinion, he was no longer happy. Inter managed to convince these guys with their project.”

And as far as Inter captain Lautaro Martinez’s start to the season, Cauet said that “It’s just a continuation of the outstanding season that Lautaro has already had.”

“I think he deserved the captain’s armband based on what he does on the pitch,” he went on. “He’s an important piece in this team.”
