Italian journalist Giancarlo Padovan feels that Inter Milan’s signing of French striker Marcus Thuram on a free transfer was a “masterstroke.”

Padovan spoke on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, praising the Nerazzurri’s squad-building.

It would be fair to say that Thuram has made an impact since his arrival at Inter during the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old has already scored four goals. And he’s assisted another five.

Moreover, Thuram just seems to be the right stylistic fit for this Nerazzurri side.

The Frenchman has dovetailed very well with Lautaro Martinez to lead the line for his new team, in ways that go beyond just goals and assists.

And the fact that Inter managed to bring a player like Thuram in the circumstances that they did is all the more impressive.

The Frenchman’s contract with Borussia Monchengladbach ran out at the end of June. Therefore, the Nerazzurri were able to sign Thuram without paying a transfer fee.

This is in keeping with a focus on free transfers that has become a key strategy for Inter.

But the fact that they signed such a quality player at the age that Thuram is makes it an especially important signing.

Padovan Praises Inter Milan Signing Marcus Thuram – “Masterstroke”

Padovan said of Inter that, within Serie A, “They have the strongest, most complete squad.”

“Well done to Marotta and Ausilio. They’ve built a brilliant team on a shoestring budget.”

“Signing Thuram was a masterstroke,” he went on.

“It was a free transfer, and they brought in a player who many teams had wanted.”

Padovan also gave his predictions for the Serie A title race.

“Inter and Napoli will compete for the Scudetto.”

At the moment, Napoli are a few points back from the top places in the Serie A table. However, they are reigning champions and could easily catch up.
