Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi wins plaudits for his all-action performance in yesterday’s Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, praise the 24-year-old and award him a score of 6.5/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Frattesi got his first ever start in the Champions League yesterday evening.

The Italian international took the place of fellow Azzurri star Nicolo Barella in the starting eleven.

And it was a performance that showed the best qualities that Frattesi can bring to Inter’s midfielder.

The former Sassuolo midfielder ran tirelessly. This was a key factor in Inter gaining a foothold in the midfield battle against a Salzburg team who attempted to stamp a very high tempo on the match with an organized, and physically intense style of pressing.

Frattesi was always making himself an option for teammates, including for long balls.

The 24-year-old wasn’t afraid to get stuck in with physical challenges against Salzburg players. He doubled up with Denzel Dumfries on the right at times, and gave the team an extra body in their own defensive third.

But at the same time, Frattesi wasn’t afraid to get forward either. On the contrary.

One of the key traits that Frattesi has earned a positive reputation for is his ability to time his forward runs.

Inter signed the Italian knowing that he can be a real threat in the final third.

Frattesi’s pace and ability to time his runs can give Inter an extra dimension in the penalty area.

And that proved to be the case yesterday.

Frattesi did not get on the scoresheet. But he did assist Alexis Sanchez’s opening goal.

The 24-year-old’s intelligent run and flick-on proved to be key in delivering the ball to the Chilean in a dangerous position.

And then Frattesi won the penalty that proved to be the match-winner.

In so doing he showed all his best qualities. There were timing of his arrival in the area, technical quality, and a real combative streak.
