Inter Milan are potentially one win away from reaching the Champions League round of sixteen for the third season in a row.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the Nerazzurri’s strong position after they beat Red Bull Salzburg in yesterday’s group stage encounter.

Inter took three vital points against Salzburg yesterday at the San Siro.

This was the second group stage match in which the Nerazzurri had won. They also beat Benfica at home prior to the international break.

Now, Inter look to have well and truly recovered from the early setback of a draw away to Real Sociedad.

The Nerazzurri and La Real are on seven points apiece in their group.

And then Salzburg are on three. Benfica have yet to take a single point.

Three Points Puts Champions League Knockouts Within Reach For Inter

The job is still far from complete for Inter.

But there is now a clear path that could see the Nerazzurri seal their qualification for the Champions League knockout rounds in the next couple matches. Potentially even in their next match.

A win against Salzburg would mathematically guarantee Inter a place in the round of sixteen.

If Inter finish the next round of group stage fixtures on ten points, they’ll be seven points ahead of Salzburg, and at least that many points ahead of Benfica.

And with two matches left to play, there would be no catching the Nerazzurri for either.

Therefore, it would be guaranteed that Inter would at least finish second in their group.

Beating Salzburg away will be no simple task for Inter. The Austrian champions gave the Nerazzurri a tough match already yesterday, and will have their home fans behind them next month.

But Inter will know exactly what a win in two weeks’ time would mean for them.
