Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi doesn’t want his team overreacting to their Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg.
Speaking to InterTV after the group stage victory, via FCInterNews, the coach stressed that there’s still half of their group to go.
Inter are now on seven points in their Champions League group.
A draw away to Real Sociedad in their opening match gave the Nerazzurri a bit of work to do.
But now Inter have a real foothold in the group.
Inzaghi’s team beat Benfica 1-0 at the San Siro before the international break. And now they’ve made it two from two at home in Europe, dispatching Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg by a 2-1 scoreline.
It was hardly the most straightforward of wins from Inter.
Particularly in the early stages, the Nerazzurri struggled to control the tempo, or even keep hold of the ball at times. The visiting team’s pressure was a big factor.
And even after Inter scored the opener through Alexis Sanchez, there were still difficulties.
Salzburg equalized not long before the hour-mark.
But then Inter restored their advantage through a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty. And after that, the Nerazzurri held on for three very important points in the context of their efforts to reach the knockout rounds of Europe’s top club competition for the third year in a row.
Inter Coach Inzaghi Reacts To Champions League Win Vs Red Bull Salzburg
After the match, Inzaghi gave his thoughts on the significance of the win.
“It’s an important win, but there’s still more work left to do,” the coach noted.
“There are two tricky away matches up next. So we’ll have to be at our best.”
The Inter coach also gave his thoughts on forward Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean started this evening’s match, and scored the opening goal.
“He’s doing well, ” Inzaghi said. “He’s improving his condition.”
“I’m happy that he scored because he deserves it for how he’s worki9ng in training.”
Inzaghi observed that “Salzburg usually plays a 4-3-1-2 shape. But even in the preseason friendly they had changed formation, they did so today as well.”
“They have a lot of young players, a lot of talent,” he added. “They run a lot, and therefore you always have to be very focused.”
