Former Juventus winger Alessio Tacchinardi argues that Inter Milan are over-relying on the services of their captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri are currently leading the Serie A standings with 22 points. Simone Inzaghi’s men beat Torino over the weekend while pouncing on AC Milan’s defeat at the hands of Juventus to reclaim the top spot.

Nevertheless, the Rossoneri are only one point behind their crosstown rivals in second place. Meanwhile, the Bianconeri complete the podium, two points adrift from the top of the charts.

Therefore, Tacchinardi believes his former employers can compete for the Scudetto title.

The 48-year-old admits that Inter have a formidable midfield unit. However, he claims that the team is dependent on Lautaro Martinez.

“Can Juve compete with Inter?  Yes, because compared to previous years, the Old Lady has stopped being ‘nice’. Now, the team is winning ‘dirty’ matches like the one against Milan,” said the retired winger in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908.

“Inter have a super midfield, but they are dependent on Lautaro Martinez. So why not try to overtake them?”

Tacchinardi feels that Juve’s humble declarations is a club strategy, although he doesn’t necessarily agree with it.

“I think denying their Scudetto ambitions is a strategy, but it doesn’t convince me. Why not fuel the enthusiasm and make the fans dream?

“I don’t think that [Director of Football Cristiano] Giuntoli would be pleased if Juve were to finish fourth at the end of the season.”
