Former Inter Milan defender Daniele Adani believes that the betrayal by striker Romelu Lukaku of Inter was personal rather than just professional.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInterNews, Adani suggested that he understands the reaction of Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez to Lukaku’s behaviour.

By now the story between Inter and Lukaku is well-known. Or at least, the basic facts have long been clear.

Lukaku had spent last season on loan with the Nerazzurri, who then attempted to sign him on a permanent basis from Chelsea.

However, Inter abruptly pulled the plug after learning of the extent of the Belgian’s negotiations with Juventus and AC Milan.

Or at least this is the version of the story that has been most common.

Lukaku himself remained relatively tight-lipped regarding the situation during the summer.

Then, the 30-year-old recently hinted that there is more to the story than has come out.

Lukaku suggested that he will eventually give his side of the story. However, he has not yet done so, except with one or two cryptic hints.

Adani: Romelu Lukaku Betrayal Of Inter Personal Rather Than Just Professional

Former defender Adani gave his thoughts on the particular manner in which the relationship between Inter and Lukaku went sour.

“It’s often the case that there are different visions with the coach or the club,” he noted.

“Or the media exploits certain behaviours, and we don’t end up getting the truth.”

“But his teammates said that Lukaku was no longer responding to anyone’s calls,” he noted.

“Lautaro Martinez seemed sincerely disappointed, because he wasn’t answering his phone,” Adani noted of the breakdown in the relationship between the two strikers who had once played together.

“It seemed like a betrayal on a personal level,” he went on.

“For those who know what happened in the dressing room, it’s sad to see.”
