Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is expecting that defender Benjamin Pavard could be out for “a while” with his knee injury.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s Serie A win over Atalanta, via FCInterNews, the coach gave an update on the Frenchman’s condition as well as reacting to the match.

Inter got the result they were after at the Gewiss Arena. However, there was one black mark on the evening for the Nerazzurri.

Defender Benjamin Pavard had to come off right around the hour mark with a knee injury.

The injury came about after a collision between the Inter player and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.

Whilst Pavard initially looked to be in a lot of pain, there were also some signs that the problem may not be that serious.

However, tests will be necessary to determine the severity of Pavard’s injury.

In any event, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is preparing to do without the 27-year-old for some time.

Of Pavard’s injury, Inzaghi cautioned that “We have to wait.”

“His kneecap came out and then came back in during the collision,” he noted.

“The player is calm,” Inzaghi added. “The doctors are rightly taking their time.”

“But in my opinion we’ll be without him for a while.”

Of the Frenchman’;s celebrations with his teammate despite the injury, Inzaghi said that “These are things that a coach likes to see.”

“The doctors did well to put his kneecap back in place,” the coach added. “But there was still an injury.”

Inzaghi also gave his thoughts on the goal that Inter conceded in the second half.

“In my opinion it was a foul [by Lookman on Federico Dimarco in the buildup],” the Inter coach said.

“It was a tough goal for us to concede.”

“Still, overall I thought Sozza handled the match well,” he said of the refereeing.
