Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi will make five changes to the starting eleven for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter will have a chance to wrap up qualification for the Champions League round of sixteen on Wednesday.

If the Nerazzurri are to win, they will be mathematically guaranteed a place in the knockouts for the third season running. Three points would mean Salzburg and Benfica can’t catch them.

And getting qualification wrapped up with a couple matches to spare would certainly be useful for Inter.

The Nerazzurri are also concentrating on Serie A. They would certainly welcome having some of the pressure of the midweek matches off.

But beating Salzburg away will not be easy.

Therefore, Inter coach Inzaghi will want to find a balance between starting a team strong enough to win against the Austrian champions, and also resting some key starters.

Five Changes Expected To Inter Starting XI For Champions League Clash Vs Salzburg

In defense, there will be two changes compared to the team that beat Atalanta over the weekend.

Matteo Darmian will certainly start. The 33-year-old came on for Benjamin Pavard against La Dea, following the Frenchman’s injury.

And Alessandro Bastoni will be back in the team. The Italian international did not play on Saturday.

At left-wingback, Carlos Augusto will start.

The Brazilian will take the place of Federico Dimarco.

And in midfield, Davide Frattesi is likely to start Wednesday’s match. He could replace either Nicolo Barella or Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the lineup.

Lastly, the Gazzetta anticipate that Alexis Sanchez will start against Salzburg on Wednesday.

The former Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona man had also started in the reverse fixture. He scored Inter’s opening goal on that occasion.
