Balance and patience have been key to Inter Milan enjoying an extremely strong start to the Serie A season.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter aren’t just currently top of the Serie A table.

The Nerazzurri have both the most goals scored, and the fewest conceded.

This is the clearest sign of the extent to which Inter have been a dominant force in the Italian top flight at the start of the campaign.

And tactical approach has, naturally, been key to this.

In the view of the Gazzetta, the secret to Inter’s performances on both sides of the ball has been their balance and patience.

Inter Relying On Balanced, Patient Approach In Serie A

Inter have not been a relentless attacking force, but they have not lacked for goals.

And the Nerazzurri have not prioritized all-out defensive effort. But they have largely protected their goal with aplomb.

This has had to do with the way that the team has balanced the two phases of the game.

At the start of last season, by contrast, Inter had played an attacking brand of football which left big spaces in front of their own goal. And they did not always protect these spaces well enough.

And in response, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi did set the team up in a more defensive posture in many key matches last season.

But this time around, the Nerazzurri’s approach has seemingly been “just right.”

The Gazzetta identify three matches as examples of this Inter at their best.

In all of wins against Fiorentina, AC Milan, and Atalanta, Inter allowed their opposition the majority of the ball.

But the newspaper argue that this is not a symptom of over-defensiveness. Rather, it has been a matter of patience.

Inter look to have accepted that they cannot dominate ninety minutes high up the pitch against this type of opposition.

But the way that the Nerazzurri have found the right moments to strike has been evidence of a patient, mature approach to looking for the right moments when they appear.
