Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez will get a rest in this evening’s Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that Marcus Thuram and Alexis Sanchez will start in attack.

One thing that has long looked clear is that former Arsenal and Manchester United veteran Alexis Sanchez will start tomorrow.

The Chilean has not started in either of Inter’s two most recent Serie A matches.

However, Sanchez had started in the first of two group stage clashes with Salzburg two weeks ago.

And it was he who opened the scoring in a 2-1 win for Inter at the San Siro.

And this evening, Inter will face the Austrian champions on their home turf.

And Sanchez will be in the team once again.

But the big question could be who partners the 34-year-old in attack.

Lautaro Martinez To Be Rested Vs Red Bull Salzburg In Champions League

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will certainly want to give one of his two starting strikers a rest.

Martinez and Thuram have led the line together from the start against both Roma and Aatalanta in the league.

And in fact, the duo have each started in the majority of Inter’s matches so far this season.

But Inzaghi hardly wants to run the starting strike pair into the ground.

However, it’s not as though Marko Arnautovic will be fit to start, even if he is back. And even if the Austrian could start, Inzaghi would likely want at least one of his first-choice starting strikers on the pitch.

At the San Siro, it had been Martinez who partnered Sanchez from the first minute against Salzburg.

But according to the Gazzetta, this time around it will be Thuram in the starting eleven along with Sanchez.

Martinez will be the player who Inzaghi decides to give a relatively rare chance to catch his breath.
