Inter Milan have already met with the agent of captain and striker Lautaro Martinez to begin contract extension talks.

This according to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Martinez’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2026.

The former Racing Club striker signed his most recent deal with the Nerazzurri in the autumn of 2021.

And whilst the expiration of Martinez’s current deal is still some way away, Inter still want to make sure that they secure the Argentine’s future for the long-term.

Therefore, by all accounts, Inter have made agreeing a new deal with Martinez a priority.

There are two aspects to this for Inter and for the Argentine.

First, Inter want their captain to put pen to paper on a deal until the end of June 2028. This would see him through until the age of 31.

And furthermore, Inter will hand Martinez a significant pay raise.

Martinez is Inter’s current captain, having taken over the armband from Samir Handanovic in the summer.

And the Argentine has been the club’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons, looking virtually certain to follow suit this time around.

Therefore, Martinez should get a new contract with wages that reflects his importance in the team.

Moreover, Inter will be very keen to wards of transfer interest in their captain.

There has also been persistent transfer interest in Martinez. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Inter striker in the past couple transfer windows.

Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at the Nerazzurri.

With such clubs admirers of the 26-year-old, the Nerazzurri will know that upping his wages significantly will be important.

According to TyC, Inter have already held the initial talks with Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano.
