Eleventh-hour returns for Lautaro Martinez and Bremer will be headaches for Inter Milan and Juventus after the international break.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
By now, the big teams in Serie A are used to the situation with South American players during the international break.
Players on international duty in CONMEBOL fixtures are always the last to return to their clubs.
And particularly after a long flight from South America, there are questions about fitness and jet lag that mean that they may not be in the best condition to start the matches after the break.
This is particularly a problem when there is a key match right after the international break.
That was the case for Inter after the September break, for example. The Nerazzurri played in the Milan derby against AC Milan immediately upon returning then.
And this time around, it is a top-of-the-table clash between Inter and Juventus right after the November break.
Lautaro & Bremer Late Returns For Inter & Juventus
Inter have a few players who will be on international duty in South America during the break.
But there is little doubt regarding who the big worry is.
Striker Martinez is Inter’s captain. And he is already on fourteen goals this season, having been the Nerazzurri’s top scorer in each of the two seasons previous.
There is no doubt that Martinez is a player who Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be desperate to start in a match as important as the upcoming Derby d’Italia.
Meanwhile, Juventus coach Max Allegri will also be getting a few players back at the eleventh hour as well.
These include US international duo Tim Weah and Weston McKennie.
But the biggest issue for Allegri, the Gazzetta suggest, is defender Bremer.
The Brazilian former Torino defender is the player who should be marking Martinez.
There’s no doubt that Bremer is a key man at the heart of Juventus’s defense. But like Inter’s captain Martinez, his late return casts doubt on how ready he’ll be for the Derby d’Italia.
