Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter Milan’s biggest strength is “respect for their opponents.”
The former defender spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Frosinone.
Inter got their tenth win of the Serie A season against Frosinone this evening.
It took the Nerazzurri just twelve matches to go into the double digits for wins.
And this blazing start to the season has meant that Inter go into the November international break top of the table.
There have already been some real statement wins against big teams so far.
The 5-1 win over AC Milan in the derby was perhaps the biggest.
But Inter have also beaten the likes of Fiorentina, Roma, and Atalanta. And there is little question that the team will have approached those matches with the right sort of respect.
But on the other hand, Inter have also had great consistency against the “smaller” teams.
This evening’s win over newly-promoted Frosinone was another testament to that.
This is in stark contrast to last season, when dropped points from those types of matches was arguably Inter’s Achilles heel.
Bergomi: Respect For The Opposition Inter Greatest Strength
“The strength of this Inter is that that they respect their opponents,” Bergomi said.
He called the win this evening a “Difficult match. Because Frosinone play good football.”
“Inter has maturity, awareness of what they’re capable of, and respect for their opposition,” he said.
“Perhaps also mindful of what happened against Bologna, for example.”
Bergomi said that “This streak has been going on since the end of last season.”
“When Inzaghi had everyone at his disposal, was able to rotate the squad, 4-5 substitutions in each match. he brings everyone into play,” the former defender added.
“You can see the awareness of how to win.”
