Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti believes that Nerazzurri striker and captain Lautaro Martinez improves each year.

Zanetti praised Martinez in an interview published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

When Martinez joined Inter in the summer of 2018, he was still a young player.

Aged 20 when he made the switch from Racing Club, the Argentine did not immediately become a starter for the Nerazzurri.

Certainly, there were plenty of positive signs even in Martinez’s first year at the San Siro.

But these only scratched the surface of what was to come from the young striker.

In two seasons under Antonio Conte, Martinez became a regular starter for Inter.

In the 2020-21 campaign, the Argentine played an important role in Inter winning the Serie A title.

And then under Simone Inzaghi, Martinez’s importance to Inter has only had an upward trajectory.

Last season Martinez helped Inter to reach the Champions League final.

And in the summer, the 26-year-old became the Nerazzurri’s captain. He inherited the armband from Javier Zanetti.

Martinez, who has finished each of the past two seasons as Inter’s top scorer, is now well on track to do so again.

And with twelve goals in Serie A already, the Argentine looks the hot favourite to be the top scorer in the Italian top flight overall.

Javier Zanetti Praises Growth Of Lautaro Martinez At Inter

“With Lauti, I can still remember when we went to go and sign him,” Inter Vice-President Zanetti looked back.

“He immediately understood the great opportunity that was before him,” he said of the Argentine striker.

“He did very well to work his way into the culture of Italian football,” the Nerazzurri Vice-President said.

“And of Inter.”

“And watching him grow, every year Lautaro takes another step forward,” Zanetti said of the Inter captain.
