Midfielder Kristjan Asllani will not be in the squad for this evening’s Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Frosinone due to a thigh strain.

The Nerazzurri updated on the 21-year-old international’s condition in a post on their official Twitter account.

So far this season, former Empoli midfielder Asllani has been playing his way into the Inter lineup.

The 21-year-old has not been a regular starter.

On the contrary, Asllani has just made one start so far this season.

The Albanian plays in the same position as Hakan Calhanoglu, who has been in virtually undroppable form.

But that does not mean that Asllani has not gotten his opportunities.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has used the 21-year-old from the bench regularly.

Moreover, Asllani’s substitute appearances have not just been to see out matches.

The Nerazzurri coach has frequently turne to the young midfielder to change matches when Inter have been searching for a goal.

And Asllani has had some very positive moments. The 21-year-old played the long diagonal ball that opened up the Roma defense in a 1-0 win for example.

Kristjan Asllani Out Of Inter Squad To Face Frosinone

It will be disappointing for Asllani, therefore, to be out of the Inter squad this evening.

The Albanian has been building momentum in recent weeks. And he will not be able to keep it going with an appearance against Frosinone.

Asllani was not expected to start.

Calhanoglu was always likely to keep his place at the base of the Nerazzurri midfield trio.

But it will certainly come as a blow for Inzaghi not to have Asllani at his disposal.

Both in terms of missing out on the Albanian’s qualities, and because it will restrict his ability to rest Calhanoglu or other midfielders in the second half of the match.

The club announce, “Kristjan Asllani will not be available to Simone Inzaghi due to a slight strain to his right thigh flexors.”
