Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that Nerazzurri striker and captain Lautaro Martinez feels at home at his club.

Zanetti spoke about his countryman in an interview with Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews.

Martinez has become a bigger and bigger part of Inter with each passing season.

This campaign he has arguably become more central than ever.

Partly that has to do with the 26-year-old’s exploits on the pitch.

Martinez has already scored a whopping fourteen goals in all competitions.

This means that the Argentine is well on his way to being Inter’s top scorer for the third season in a row.

And Martinez is also currently the hot favourite to finish as the top scorer in Serie A. That’s not something that he had managed previously in career.

And Martinez also chips in with a lot more than just goals.

The striker is the player who sets the tone for Inter from his role leading the line. Martinez’s linkup play and defensive workrate are vital to how Inter play under Simone Inzaghi.

And Martinez doesn’t just wear the captain’s armband for Inter due to his quality on the pitch.

Quite the contrary, at the age of 26 the striker has grown into a leader on and off the pitch within this Inter squad.

Moreover, Martinez’s loyalty to Inter over the past couple of years has also had a big impact.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Inter striker in the past couple transfer windows.

Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at the Nerazzurri.

The fact that the Argentine has always stayed at the Nerazzurri has endeared him the fans and cemented his role in the dressing room.

And it has also created a strong bond between Martinez and the club hierarchy.

“What he sees and feels wearing the captain’s armband, he manages to transmit the sense of belonging at Inter to his teammates,” Zanetti said of Martinez.

“He has said many times that he feels at home here,” he continued.

“And when it comes to talking about a contract extension, I’m sure that everyone’s intention will be to continue on together.”
