Inter Milan summer signing Yann Sommer has already equaled the number of clean sheets registered by Andre Onana last season.

The Cameroonian joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer from Ajax.

The 27-year-old usurped former club captain Samir Handanovic in Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Onana cemented himself as a fan favorite at the Giuseppe Meazza, especially for his heroics en route toward the Champions League final.

Nonetheless, Inter ended up cashing in on the former Ajax man, selling him to Man United for more than 50 million euros.

The Italian giants replaced him by signing Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the numbers prove that the Swiss has been doing an exceptional job between the sticks since the start of the season.

The 34-year-old has already collected 10 clean sheets in 16 appearances across all competitions. This includes eight shutouts in his 12 Serie A outings.

Curiously, Onana only managed to earn eight league clean sheets throughout the entire campaign in 2022/23.

Yann Sommer Already Equalled Onana In Terms Of Serie A Clean Sheets At Inter Milan

These stats showcase just how proficient Sommer has been since joining Inter in the summer.

The source describes him as “essential rather than flashy”.

On the other hand, Onana has been enduring a torrid start to his time at Old Trafford, conceding several avoidable goals.

All in all, the report argues that the Nerazzuri have made the right call in the summer.
