Inter Milan superstar Lautaro Martinez is reportedly the favorite to start the major showdown between Brazil and Argentina on Tuesday night.

The two South American superpowers will clash heads at the iconic Maracana Stadium in the sixth round of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

With the two nations suffering surprising defeats last week, both will be hellbent on bouncing back with a win over their eternal rivals.

This clash will also see pit two Nerazzurri stars against one another, albeit their participation remains doubtful.

Carlos Augusto made his debut for Brazil last month, but has yet to lock himself a starting berth.

On the contrary, Lautaro Martinez is a well-established protagonist in the Argentine national team.

The Inter captain started on the bench against Uruguay before taking the field after the interval.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old could get the nod this time around.

According to TyC Sports via FcInterNews, Lautaro is the favorite to spearhead Lionel Scaloni’s starting line-up against the Selecao.

The Nerazzurri skipper would thus join a star-studded attack featuring Lionel Messi and Benfica veteran Angel Di Maria.

The source claims Martinez is currently ahead of Julian Alvarez in the run-off.
