Bologna are preparing a contract extension for Inter Milan and Napoli target Thiago Motta.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, report that the Rossoblu want to tie down their coach’s future until the end of June 2026. But there could be a “big club” exit clause.
Motta has certainly impressed with the job that he has done since taking over at Bologna.
The former Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, Genoa, and Barcelona midfielder took over at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in September of last season.
Motta had had previous coaching ventures in Serie A, with Genoa and Spezia.
But it has been in Emilia-Romagna that the 41-year-old has really started to shine as a coach.
Motta had taken over from Sinisa Mihajlovic after the Serb stepped down at Bologna due to illness.
Last season, the ex-Italian international guided Bologna to a credible midtable finish. And he did so in style, as the Emiians played attractive possession football.
But that proved to only be the beginning for Motta at Bologna.
Bologna Want To Lock Down Inter & Napoli Linked Coach Thiago Motta With New Contract
At the moment, Motta is only under contract with Bologna until the end of June 2024.
But the start to the season that the Rossoblu have enjoyed will certainly mean that the club are anxious to change that.
Bologna are pushing for European football after twelve matches gone in the season.
And the sense is that there is nothing about this that is a fluke.
The Rossoblu have earned draws against the likes of Juventus, Napoli, and Inter.
And the style of football that Bologna have been playing under Motta has earned them plenty of praise.
Therefore, there is a sense that Motta may have bigger things in his future. And not too far down the line.
Inter are among the clubs reportedly interested in Motta as a future coach.
There is already a connection between Motta and Inter. As a player, the Italian won the Treble with the Nerazzurri during the 2009-10 season.
Simone Inzaghi currently looks to be firmly at the helm at Inter.
But there is never certainty in football, particularly when it comes to football. So Inter are keeping Motta in mind as a possible replacement.
Meanwhile, Napoli are also reportedly keen.
The Partenopei just sacked Rudi Garcia prior to the international break.
Walter Mazzarri took over for his second spell in place of the Frenchman. But Mazzarri is only under contract until the end of next June.
So Napoli could well be looking for a new coach come next summer.
And Motta would certainly represent an intriguing option for the current Italian champions.
Bologna want to tie Motta down with a new deal until the end of June 2026 amid this interest.
However, Tuttosport report, there could be a clause that allows him to leave should one of the “big” clubs come in with an offer for him.
