Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani believes that it’s possible for the Nerazzurri to get their hands on the Serie A title and the second start this sesaon,

The 21-year-old Albanian international spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. He also opened up about his growth in his second season at Inter.

This season, former Empoli midfielder Asllani has been playing more of a role at Inter.

It hasn’t been easy for the Albanian to get out on the pitch. He is certainly behind Hakan Calhanoglu in the Nerazzurri’s midfield pecking order.

But Asllani has had his part to play even if it has been more as a substitute than as a starter.

It was Asllani who provided the crossfield diagonal pass that led to Inter’s winner in a Serie A match against Roma last month.

That match was the latest to come as confirmation that Inter could finally get their hands on the second star this season.

Inter have won nineteen Italian top flight titles in their history. Therefore if the team win the Serie A title this time around it would take them to twenty, allowing them to put the second star on their shirts.

So far that title victory and second star have proven elusive. Inter were disappointed to miss out in each of the previous two seasons.

But Asllani believes that this time around it is possible.

Inter Midfielder Kristjan Asllani Says Second Star Possible

This coming weekend, Inter face Juventus in Serie A.

That match will pit first in the second in the table. There are just two points separating the two teams.

Therefore, there is a real air of a potential title-decider to this particular Derby d’Italia clash.

Looking ahead to that match, Asllani said that “We know that it’ll be a difficult match.”

“Juve are a very strong team,” he went on.

“We’ll play our game and aim for the best result,” he said.

As far as the Serie A title race, Asllani said that “You could definitely say [we’re in it]. But there are also a number of other strong teams who we know are capable of winning it too.”

As far as the Champions League, Asllani said that “I’m taking it from match to match.”

“We’re going forward on a good path, but we’re still at the start. We’re aiming for top spot in our group.”

As for whether the second star is a dream within reach, Asllani replied “Yes. We’ll see what happens.”

And as far as whether or not he would ever considering joining city rivals AC Milan, Asllani replied that “I’m an Interista. I’m happy to be here with this group of guys.”

“I immediately said yes when the offer came from here,” he added. “I am an Inter fan.”

Happy With Progress At Inter, Not Rushing Into Starting XI

As far as his growth at Inter, Asllani said that “Last season I knew that I was third-choice in my role, and would have relatively few minutes.”

“I thank the coach and Calhanoglu,” he noted. “A fantastic guy who gives me a lot of advice in training.”

“I’ve also improved since last season,” the Albanian continued.

“I’ve studied my teammates for a year, and maybe I’m ready too.”

“There’s no timetable to become a starter,” Asllani made clear. “But I’m working hard in training.”

The 21-year-old explained that his efforts have focused “On the defensive phase, and many other aspects, because I want to carve out my place in the team and get more minutes than I have been so far.”

“But that has to come from work,” Asllani made clear.

He noted that “In the summer I wanted to stay.”

“And then the club and the coach both deserve great credit. They both wanted to keep me.”

“I think it was the best choice,” Asllani said of staying at Inter for the start of this season.

“The coach helps me in all the training sessions, and has given me minutes that I didn’t necessarily expect.”

“I’ve taken advantage of them well,” the midfielder said. “And now I want to keep working and improving in training.”
